Job Summary
Zion Memorial Gardens, is a large cemetery in Birmingham, AL. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the cemetery grounds, leading a team of groundskeepers, and ensuring the cemetery grounds are well-maintained and provide a peaceful and respectful environment for families and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a team of groundskeepers, assigning tasks, providing training, and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to high standards.
- Plan and schedule grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, and general landscaping.
- Maintain and repair cemetery infrastructure, including grave markers, fences, gates, and pathways.
- Ensure that all cemetery equipment and tools are properly maintained and in good working condition.
- Supervise team digging graves and filling in graves after burials as needed.
- Coordinate with the cemetery manager and office staff to schedule burial services and ensure all arrangements are handled smoothly and professionally.
- Maintain accurate records of grounds maintenance activities, equipment maintenance, and inventory.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in grounds maintenance.
- Handles and completes work orders from client families as it pertains to individual grave and marker maintenance.
- Submit daily reports to the Operations Manager.
- Oversees ground keeping and grave digging teams.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by management.
Skills
- Attention to detail to ensure the client/family wishes are met and exceeded.
- Physically capable of lifting, pushing/pulling, and standing for long periods of time.
- Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, for reporting and collaboration purposes.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a logical approach to troubleshooting equipment issues.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to operate landscaping equipment and tools, and perform manual labor in various weather conditions
- Knowledge of landscaping techniques, plant care, and grounds maintenance best practices
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of cemetery operations and burial procedures is a plus
