ASSISTANT SAFETY OFFICER
The Assistant Safety Officer works under the guidance of the Safety Director and is responsible for promoting and ensuring safety compliance across Roof Depot's construction projects. This includes safety oversight for roofing, siding, metal work, reroofing, and repair divisions. The role requires conducting on-site inspections, preparing safety documentation, and working with field staff and subcontractors to minimize risks and maintain safe work environments. Extensive travel is required to oversee job sites and respond to safety needs.
The Assistant Safety Officer will be expected to conduct routine safety inspections at job sites to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company protocols. Identify and address potential safety concerns to improve processes and eliminate hazards by providing guidance, education and support to employees. They will be responsible for submitting detailed reports, including safety audits, incident investigations, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), to the Safety Director. They will also assist in investigating incidents or accidents, ensuring proper documentation and follow-up actions.
The ideal candidate will have previous leadership experience in a construction safety role, with a preference for those familiar with large-scale or multi-site projects, industry knowledge and solid familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety practices in construction, particularly roofing, siding, and metal work. This person will uphold high standards of accountability and responsibility to enforce safety protocols. Possess strong interpersonal skills for effective communication and collaboration with teams and subcontractors. They will be very proactive and take initiative to identify and mitigate safety hazards. Must be able to respond calmly and decisively in emergencies to ensure personnel safety in a crisis situation. CPR, AED, First Aid, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication, or equivalent certifications are advantageous. Roof Depot offers internal training to meet specific requirements.
Candidate must be comfortable working at heights and climbing ladders for inspections. Must be able to tolerate extreme weather conditions. Capable of handling physical tasks, such as lifting materials or equipment as needed.
Must have a valid driver's license and pass our driving requirements to be capable of driving a company vehicle and traveling frequently between job sites.
The Assistant Safety Officer must be able to travel frequently across states to with overnight stays.
