MusicBreeds is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to increasing equitable opportunities in education through music. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper with nonprofit accounting expertise to support our financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and financial transparency.

Job Overview:

The Part-Time Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining financial records, processing transactions, and supporting financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have experience with nonprofit accounting and a solid understanding of grant tracking, donor contributions, and nonprofit financial regulations.

Requirements: Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers in QuickBooks Online (or preferred accounting software)
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and general ledger accounts
  • Assist in preparing financial reports, including balance sheets, profit/loss statements, and grant reports
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring compliance with nonprofit financial regulations
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and forecasting
  • Work with external accountants for audits, tax filings (e.g., 990 forms), and compliance reporting
  • Manage payroll processing, employee reimbursements, and vendor payments
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state nonprofit financial reporting requirements
  • Support grant reporting, tracking fund utilization, and ensuring compliance with funding restrictions
  • Maintain financial documentation and ensure proper record-keeping
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Minimum 3 years of bookkeeping experience , preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) for nonprofits
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Xero, or other accounting software
  • Experience with grant tracking, donor contributions, and fund accounting
  • Familiarity with IRS Form 990 and nonprofit tax regulations
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Experience in preparing financial reports for board meetings and grant funders
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal teams
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, foundations, or social impact ventures
  • Knowledge of fundraising platforms and donor management systems
  • Familiarity with payroll systems (e.g., Gusto, ADP, Paychex, Paylocity)
